The roster says the Dr. Phillips boys basketball team, with just one senior starter, is probably too young to win a state championship this weekend.
“We can’t use our youth to be an excuse for anything,” Witherspoon said with clear conviction this week. “We’re not a senior-heavy team, but we’re an experienced team. We expect our guys to get it done. They have enough experience to do so.”
The Panthers (25-3), ranked No. 2 in the MaxPreps Class 7A Florida rankings, will play No. 1 Oak Ridge (23-2) in an all-Orlando state semifinal Friday at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
