DP downs grieving Apopka as boys basketball win streaks are stopped

Denzel Aberdeen scored 19 points and had four assists to help Dr. Phillips defeat a grieving Apopka team 60-57 on Friday night in a boys basketball matchup of Sentinel Super 16 teams.

Ernest Udeh Jr., a 6-foot-10 junior, added 8 points and 12 rebounds for DP (11-1), the No. 3 team in the Orlando area rankings. The Panthers rallied after trailing 44-38 midway through the three quarter against the No. 5 Blue Darters (8-1).

Apopka played under difficult circumstances without its head coach, Scott Williams, due to a COVID-19 quarantine. Blue Darters assistant coach Earl Graham died Friday after contracting COVID-19.
