DP breaks backboard in bizarre win; Olympia awaits

In a boys basketball playoff game that ended 3.9 miles away from where it started — and on the home floor of its archrival — Dr. Phillips coasted to a 67-21 win over Oviedo in a Class 7A Region 2 quarterfinal on Thursday night.

Play was delayed for an hour and five minutes after a put-back dunk attempt by Dr. Phillips junior Ernest Udeh Jr. shattered the glass on the backboard. The Panthers (20-3) led 14-10 at the time of the stoppage with seven minutes and 37 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

The teams loaded up and traveled down the road to Olympia High, where the game resumed at about 8:15.
