The Miami Dolphins are trading for a player that could potentially strengthen the weakest position group on their team before the 2020 NFL season.
But the Dolphins have added some competition to the tight end position and could potentially uncover some untapped potential along the way.
Miami’s second-leading receiver a season ago was Mike Gesicki, a tight end who had career highs with 51 catches for 570 yards and five touchdowns for the Dolphins. He was their second-round pick in 2018.
Shaneen, who has 26 career catches for 249 yards, also will compete with Durham Smythe (Miami’s fourth-round pick in 2018), Michael Roberts (a 2017 fourth-rounder from the Detroit Lions) and Chris Myarick, a talented player who spent last season on the Dolphins practice squad.
