Dolphins seek spark in run game without Matt Brieda, Jordan Howard vs. Chargers

If the Miami Dolphins are going to extend their winning streak Sunday, they will need a spark from their running game.

Dolphins running back Matt Brieda and Jordan Howard — offseason acquisitions acquired to boast Miami’s run game — are among five players inactive for Miami against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Brieda will miss his second straight game due to a hamstring injury, while Howard, who has been steady in short-yardage situations, scoring four touchdowns near the goal line, will be inactive for the fourth time this season.

Their absences pave the way for Dolphins running backs Salvon Ahmed, DeAndre Washington and Patrick Laird to carry the load, while receiver Malcolm Perry could be used in some Wildcat formations to help Miami’s offense.
