A: Let’s start with where the Dolphins ranked last year. They were No. 6 in scoring defense and No. 20 in yards against — No. 24 if you go by yards per play.
Most merely rank defenses off of those measures, but for the Dolphins defense, led by cornerback Xavien Howard, the X-factor — pun intended — is how it forces turnovers. The Dolphins led the NFL with 29 takeaways in 2020 — 18 of them interceptions, 10 of which came courtesy of Howard.
