Allen Hurns was the Miami Dolphins’ most experienced receiver, the player the youngsters in the unit would lean on in the film room or on the field when breaking down opposing defenses.
Albert Wilson was Miami’s emotional leader, the veteran who would keep the receivers uplifted, and help the unit remain bonded.
With both veteran receivers opting out of the 2020 season because of their coronavirus concerns the Dolphins are facing a leadership and talent void in what was once viewed as one of the team’s deepest unit.
While the absences of Wilson and Hurns creates an opportunity for a younger players like Gary Jennings or Isaiah Ford, or a player on the fridge of making the 53-man regular-season roster to step forward and do more, Miami’s coaches are aware someone will raise their hands and become this unit’s leader.
