Dolphins exploring options to replace linebacker Elandon Roberts

Elandon Roberts missed his second straight practice on Thursday because of a concussion he suffered in last week’s 21-11 season-opening loss to the New England Patriots, and the Miami Dolphins are prepared to play without the team’s starting inside linebacker on Sunday.

Roberts, a 34-game starter for the Patriots before joining the Dolphins (0-1) as a free agent this offseason, apparently began showing symptoms of a concussion after last Sunday’s game, which got him placed in the NFL’s three-stage concussion-protocol program.

It is typical for a players in the concussion protocol to return to practice for a least one on-field session before they are removed from the program, which is designed to protect players from returning too soon from head injuries.
