Before reloading his Dolphins team with new draft picks and free-agent signings, Brian Flores had to reconstruct his coaching staff to continue executing the franchise’s rebuilding effort on the field.
Enter Chan Gailey, a 68-year-old offensive coordinator who was retired for three years before Flores inquired about his services, and Josh Boyer, a 43-year-old football history buff who started his career alongside Flores as a Patriots assistant. Together, they join Danny Crossman, who enters his second season as special teams coordinator.
And that was just the beginning for Flores, who ultimately hired nine new coaches to join the Dolphins and promoted another after his first season, in a complete overhaul of his coaching staff.
