WASHINGTON — D.C. United completed the acquisition of Peruvian international Edison Flores from Liga MX team Atlético Monarcas Morelia pending his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa, the club announced Tuesday. The midfielder will occupy United’s second Designated Player slot.
United reportedly paid a club-record transfer fee of $5 million for Flores, according to the Washington Post. The previous club high was of $3.25 million for U.S. men’s national team midfielder Paul Arriola in August 2017 from Mexican team Club Tijuana. Arriola occupies United’s other Designated Player slot.
“We are excited to add an international player of Edison’s pedigree to the team ahead of the 2020 season,” United general manager Dave Kasper said in a statement.
