WASHINGTON — D.C. United signed defensive midfielder Mohammed Abu Tuesday on a one-year loan from Vålerenga. The 28-year-old holds a Green Card and will not fill an international roster spot.
“We’re excited for Abu to join the team and add some important depth in the central midfield position,” D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a statement. “He has good defensive instincts and has an impressive passing range.”
United mostly played in a 4-3-3 formation in a season-opening 2-1 loss to the Colorado Rapids. Defensive midfielders Felipe Martins and Junior Moreno worked behind Julian Gressel.
