The Wayne Rooney era has come and gone for D.C. United.
To fill the holes left by Rooney and playmaker Luciano Acosta, United brought in Peruvian international Edison Flores and former Atlanta United midfielder Julian Gressel to supplement the attack. Both players will add assists and goals on the team sheet, but without the top four goal scorers of last season (Rooney, Acosta, Lucas Rodrigues and Paul Arriola), United will rely on the whole team for goals this season.
“It is going to be a group effort, as it always is with us. We rarely have that 25-goal scorer,” coach Ben Olsen said.
