According to several players at Daytona Beach Mainland High, football coach Scott Wilson has decided to step down after nearly 11 seasons, effective immediately.
Wilson met with players Wednesday and told them of his decision. The Sentinel was unable to reach Wilson or Mainland athletic director Patrick Monahan to confirm the resignation.
Wilson took over the Mainland program midway through the 2010 season, after former coach John Maronto stepped down. Wilson won his 100th game as Bucs coach last season and his record in 10-and-a-half seasons was 103-31 record during his tenure.
He led the Bucs to three Class 6A state semifinal appearances, in which they lost to Miami Central twice and Treasure Coast once.
