Exploria Stadium was filled to about one-third of capacity on Wednesday night for Orlando City’s match against Atlanta United. It didn’t matter when Lions winger Chris Mueller curled a searing free kick past Five Stripes goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
When the ball struck the net in the final minutes of first half stoppage time, the supporters' section erupted with the volume of a sold-out stadium.
Mueller jogged to the supporters section in celebration, holding both hands up next to his ear to pantomime falling asleep. The message was clear — don’t sleep on these Lions.
For the Lions (9-3-8, 35 points), the 2020 season has been a year-long campaign of accomplishing milestones for the first time in club history.
