Dan Marino rooting against Bill Belichick breaking Don Shula’s NFL wins record: ‘I hope he don’t get it’

Miami Dolphins Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino saw many of his seemingly untouchable NFL records get broken over the years, but his legendary coach’s all-time wins mark is one he hopes stands the test of time.

Shula, who died on May 4, 2020, at the age of 90, is the NFL’s winningest coach with 328 wins (347 including playoffs). Shula, who had just 173 losses and six ties in 33 seasons, surpassed George Halas’ mark of 324 victories in 1993. He retired after the 1995 season.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is closing in on Shula’s record with 280 victories (311 including playoffs) — just 48 regular-season wins shy of tying Shula’s mark.
