It’s looking more and more like the college football national championship won’t be determined by which team has the best offensive or defensive systems, but instead by which team has the best immune system.
Just look at No. 1-ranked Clemson, which just lost star quarterback Trevor Lawrence for this week’s game against Boston College (and possibly next week’s game against No. 4-ranked Notre Dame) because of a positive COVID test. Or the No. 9 Wisconsin Badgers, whose starting quarterback Graham Mertz tested positive and is out for at least three weeks because of Big Ten’s stringent protocols.
And what’s it tell you when the Florida Gators' season of championship hopes might have been derailed because a couple of UF players got the sniffles, didn’t think to report it, possibly infected the team during a road trip and caused the program to be shut down for two weeks?
