Rookie Courtney Petersen delivered a last-minute moment of salvation for the Orlando Pride, scoring a 90th-minute goal to keep the team’s unbeaten streak alive against Gotham FC on Sunday.
The host Pride were one minute away from the desperation sprint of stoppage time when Petersen collected a pass from Marta and launched the ball in a parabola from outside the box into the top corner of the netting. The goal equalized the match at 1-1 after the Pride trailed for the entire second half.
The draw still dropped the Pride (3-1-2, 11) out of their top spot in the NWSL table, falling to the second place overall behind the Portland Thorns, who hold a five-goal lead in differential.
