When Kaylin Whitney set world 17-and-under records for both the 100- and 200-meter dashes on consecutive days in the summer of 2014 it looked like the former East Ridge High School starlet was destined to be American’s next sprint sensation.
The effervescent teen, graced with talent, charisma and a cover-girl smile, was only a couple of months past her sophomore season and had surpassed youth times run by the likes of six-time gold medalist Allyson Felix.
Whitney turned pro on her 17th birthday in March of 2015 but struggled to succeed in the short sprints against world-class competition.
