FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Revolution squandered a first half lead and a handful of obvious scoring chances in their home opener against Chicago Fire FC Saturday afternoon, as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw at Gillette Stadium.
Polish striker Adam Buksa put New England up in the 28th minute with his first goal of the season after he controlled Brandon Bye’s cross at the top of the box, rounded Francisco Calvo and fired past Fire goalkeeper Kenneth Kronholm.
Jonathan Bornstein — a fullback — equalized in the 70th minute for the Fire by advancing into the penalty area to head in Djordje Mihailovic’s feed from the left flank.
