Winter Springs junior Caroline Wells and recent Timber Creek graduate Ethan Exilhomme celebrated the Fourth of July weekend with more fireworks on the track.
Wells, the Orlando Sentinel athlete of the year for both cross country and track, set her second state record of the season when ran a time of 16 minutes 16.02 seconds for 5,000 meters at the Nike Outdoor Nationals meet in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday. That came one day after she ran the second fastest mile time in state history, 4:42.40, at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle.
Exilhomme, the area boys track and field athlete of the year, also shined against national competition.
