The Canada men’s national team started the new decade with a 4-1 blowout victory over Barbados in a friendly Tuesday night at Orange County Park in Irvine, California.
Toronto FC teammates Tosaint Ricketts and Jonathan Osorio both had first half goals, along with with Tesho Akindele of Orlando City SC, while Vancouver Whitecaps striker Theo Bair capped the scoring in the second half on his debut.
Canada has now won its opening match of the new year for the fourth consecutive time.
“The boys responded well tonight as we haven’t had long together, but the organization and intensity was evident,” Canada coach John Herdman after the game “I was particularly happy with the fluidity in the attacking third and our commitment to the high press given that many players are coming off pre-season.
