Calvin Perry, a former Jones High school football coach and athletic director who guided students with a stern style and a soft heart for more than 30 years in Orlando, died in the early morning hours Friday.
Perry was head coach for Tigers football from the early 1970s through 1980. The highlight of that stretch was a 9-1 regular season and Rotary Bowl appearance. He moved from coaching into the athletic director role and piloted the Jones High sports programs until he retired from the Orange County Public Schools system in 2005.
