It was nearly a half-century ago in 1976 when he first arrived on campus as the head football coach.
“It’s the same symptoms,” Bobby told me the other day when talking about the arduous task facing first-year FSU head coach Mike Norvell. “You’re starting from the bottom and having to work your way up. That’s what we did and that’s what they’re going to have to do now.”
This is, without question, the worst shape the FSU program has been in since Bobby’s predecessor Darrell Mudra went 3-8 in 1975. It should be noted that Mudra was a quirky head coach who actually coached games from the press box.
