C.J. Smith didn’t run track for Bishop Moore as a ninth grader, choosing instead to focus on football.
But with a nudge from his father, who convinced Smith that being a two-sport standout would enhance his football profile, he settled back into the sprint starting blocks as a sophomore. Now, as a junior, he’s smashing records.
And he’s not alone. Senior teammates Justin Kern and Marc Morrison also broke school records last week as the trio turned in spectacular regional meet performances that stamp the Hornets as a dark-horse contender to win the Class 2A boys team championship on Saturday.
