NASHVILLE — The Music City threw a party for soccer Saturday evening, as an announced crowd of 59,069 fans embraced Major League Soccer and cheered all night long for their new boys in yellow and blue, Nashville SC.
Those cheers in Nissan Stadium were at their peak in the 28th minute, when center back Walker Zimmerman poked a ball past Brad Guzan for the first score in the club’s history.
However, the visiting team, Atlanta United FC, did not intend to celebrate with the newly christened expansion side. The Five Stripes worked diligently to silence the rowdy crowd and struck the back of the net twice to capture three points and take a 2-1 win in the 2020 MLS season opener.
