Apopka put together its most impressive offensive outing of the season at the right time, defeating host Winter Park 33-7 Friday in a Class 8A, Region 2 high school football quarterfinal game at Showalter Field.
The Blue Darters (6-3) broke out of the doldrums with a 30-point second half, taking the lead just two plays into the third quarter and dominating from there.
Once again, it was the legs of quarterback Jaquan Lowman that spurred Apopka, No. 13 in the Sentinel Super 16 Orlando area rankings. The senior had 237 rushing yards and three touchdowns as the Blue Darters modified their offense, running most plays out of a three-wide spread offense rather than their traditional single wing.
