APOPKA — After taking advantage of DeLand miscues to claim an 11-point halftime lead, Apopka put together two long scoring drives in the third quarter to take control and cruise to a 38-6 victory over the Bulldogs on Friday in the preseason Kickoff Classic.
A nearly full home cheering section rooted on the Blue Darters, who led 14-0 just 5:02 into the contest. Apopka’s first touchdown came on a 13-yard run by Keyondray Jones following a high snap on a DeLand punt attempt. Jones led all rushers with 96 yards.
After the Blue Darters’ defense forced another three-and-out on DeLand’s next possession, Apopka cornerback Nikai Martinez, a UCF commit, showed his prowess with the ball in his hand as he returned a Bulldogs’ punt 36 yards for a touchdown.
