The Orlando Pride dropped a 2-1 result in Portland on Sunday, extending their winless streak to four matches. Here are three things learned from the match:
Neither team played a clinical match. Orlando finished with 70% passing accuracy, Portland with 72%. Both sides played disjointedly through the midfield, with heavy touches and errant through balls leaving both sides vulnerable to counterattacks.
For Orlando, the difference was an inability to exploit these opportunities. Coach Marc Skinner noted a particular timidity in the first half, which led the Pride to miss on tackles and sag off attackers.
“In the moment you’ve got to exact the attitude,” Skinner said.
