10 questions with UCF alum Kyle Coon, elite para triathlete

UCF alumnus and elite para triathlete Kyle Coon sees his world differently than others. Coon, 29, lost his sight at age 7 after he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a form of eye cancer. Both of his eyes had to be surgically removed.

But that did not mean he lost his vision. Early in life, he made it his mission to “live without limits.’’ At age 15, he climbed and summited Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro — the highest free-standing mountain in the world. In college, he joined the UCF wrestling team and eventually switched to triathlons — swimming, running and cycling.
