After dropping the first 2 game of their series against 14th ranked Oregon State, including the first game of the day's double header 7-2, Utah had to salvage a win in the nightcap of the double header to beat the weather (the Beavers and Utes played 2 today to avoid predicted thunderstorms on Saturday) to stay ahead of Oregon State in the Pac-12, and hold onto a share of the conference lead.
And they had to overcome Michael Gretler's first career homer, which capped a 4 run 4th inning by the Beavers. But a 2 RBI double in the 5th inning by Andre Jackson that was a harsh welcome to the game to Mitch Hickey did exactly that, and Utah went on to hold on to a 7-6 lead and win.
