Two Oregon State baseball players selected in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft are close to ending their college careers.
Junior reliever John Pomeroy told The Oregonian/OregonLive he will have his physical with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday and expects to sign with the team that drafted him Saturday in the 13th round. The Mossyrock, Washington resident said the deal would be for $100,000 and that he plans to play for the Bristol Pirates, Pittsburgh's Rookie-level affiliate in the Appalachian League.
Pomeroy was selected more on potential than results at the collegiate level.
