The Cougars are one of this season’s surprise teams in the Pac-12, and perhaps in college football. WSU is 4-1, and its lone loss, blew a two-touchdown lead during the second half in losing to USC 39-36. Washington State collectively won 17 games during 2016 and 2017, but sustained heavy losses after season. Instead, the Cougars might be better this season. WSU has an above average Pac-12 defense, and an offense that has no league peer as a passing attack. The Cougars played a non-conference schedule almost as soft as Oregon’s, had the near-win at USC, and come into Corvallis off a solid victory over Utah.
