DURHAM, N.C. – Oregon State junior catcher Adley Rutschman is one of 25 players who have been named semifinalists for the 2019 Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced on Wednesday.
The Golden Spikes Award is given annually to the nation's top amateur player. Previous winners include Brendan McKay (2017), Kris Bryant (2013), Bryce Harper (2010), Buster Posey (2008) and David Price (2007).
Rutschman leads the nation with a .581 on-base percentage and 66 walks, is fourth with a .428 batting average and fifth with a .783 slugging percentage. He leads Oregon State and is tied for third in the Pac-12 Conference with 16 home runs to go along with nine doubles, one triple and 53 runs batted in.
