As the Beavers (1-0) jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the Texas Longhorns (0-1), the same demons that had haunted the young squad started to reappear. Oregon State saw its lead shrink to 4-2 in the eighth inning. Then, with two outs, one swing of the bat tied the game.
In the past, the young Beavers might have caved in and folded. But against Texas, on a soggy field that needed helicopters to dry out the field, the Beavers were able to rally for a run in the bottom half of the inning to give OSU a 5-4 victory in the first round of the regional round.
