CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State Hall of Fame wrestler Roger Weigel (front row, fourth from left) of Oregon City, an NCAA champion in 1971, passed away on Thursday night in Portland.
Weigel lettered from 1969-71 under coach Dale Thomas and was a member of two Pacific-8 Conference championship teams. He defeated defending champion Dwayne Keller of Oklahoma State to win the 1971 NCAA title at 134 pounds in a bout Thomas called “the finest single performance by a Beaver he had ever seen.”
Weigel was inducted into the OSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993, and was named to the Pacific-12 Conference’s All-Century Wrestling team earlier this year.
