CORVALLIS – Philosophies regarding the approach to the Civil War for Oregon and Oregon State football coaches haven’t followed a similar path through the years.
Former OSU coach Dee Andros made it clear the Civil War stood above all other games, often saying the outcome was for the “right to live in the state.”
Then there was Chip Kelly, the former Oregon coach who took a meh stance on the Civil War, claiming every game was equal, regardless of opponent.
This is Jonathan Smith’s first game as a coach in the Civil War. While Smith has experience in the rivalry as a former OSU quarterback, this is the first time he’ll set the tone as a coach.
