Oregon State is one of many Power 5 schools that has eased its drug-testing policy over the last decade, according to an investigation by the Associated Press published Monday.
The report states "at least one-third of the Power 5 conference schools are not punishing athletes as harshly as they were 10 years ago for testing positive for marijuana and other so-called recreational drugs." In the Pac-12, for instance, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Washington State have also loosened their policies.
OSU's full drug-testing policy, which can be viewed in the student-athlete handbook, currently suspends athletes for 30 percent of the season for a second failed test (compared to 50 percent in 2005) and dismisses the athlete after a fourth failed test (compared to after the third failed test).
