CORVALLIS -- A swing route first garnered Thomas Tyner's attention.
Oregon State freshman running back Calvin Tyler caught the pass in one of his early fall camp repetitions, cut back and made a defender miss. As Tyner acclimated to his first training camp in two years, the intense running style of a first-year player caught his eye, compared to the timidity he's noticed from freshmen in the past.
If anyone knows what it takes to work his way into a crowded backfield as a true freshman, it's Tyner. The former Oregon Duck became his team's second leading rusher in 2013 during his first year in Eugene alongside Byron Marshall and De'Anthony Thomas.
