Oregon State will reportedly hire Greg Burns as its defensive back coach, according to Beaver Blitz.
The Wednesday report comes as a university source told The Oregonian/OregonLive that former interim head coach and cornerbacks coach Cory Hall would not be on the new staff led by Jonathan Smith.
Burns, 45, most recently spent three seasons as the California defensive backs coach from 2014-16 under Sonny Dykes. He has two other stints coaching defensive backs in the Pac-12 at USC (2002-05) and Arizona State (2008-11).
Burns, who played defensive back at Washington State from 1991-95, has also coached at Louisville (1998-2001), Kansas State (2007), Purdue (2012) and UMass (2013), along with a one-year stint coaching defensive backs for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006.
