CORVALLIS -- Before Oregon State ended the 2016 season on a two-game win streak, the Beavers appeared destined for a stunning upset of Washington State.
But after building a 21-3 first half lead in Reser Stadium, the lead evaporated in the second half and they lost 35-31.
A contributing factor in the defeat were the six false starts that went against OSU, a rarity for most home teams. Some of the penalties came at critical moments in the second half.
After the game, coach Gary Andersen credited Washington State linebacker Peyton Pelluer with timing his team's pre-snap defensive shifts to when Oregon State planned to snap, causing the offensive line confusion.
