CORVALLIS – Jake Luton’s head injury against Ohio State leaves Oregon State’s quarterback situation with a lack of clarity heading into Saturday’s home opener.

Beavers coach Jonathan Smith said Monday that Luton is currently in concussion protocol, his playing status day-to-day.

If Luton isn’t able to go against Southern Utah, Smith said sophomore Conor Blount would start Saturday’s game. Blount completed 12 of 19 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the 77-31 loss to Ohio State.

Luton won the starting job during OSU’s preseason camp, but played only one series against Ohio State. Smith said it “depends on how much he could practice” in regards to whether Luton would start Saturday.
