CORVALLIS – Oregon State’s 48-25 win over Southern Utah wasn’t without cost, as Artavis Pierce sustained an elbow injury that will shelve the junior running back for a month.
Pierce was off to a fast start this season, running for 168 yards in the season opener against Ohio State, then 95 yards on 11 carries when he fell awkwardly after a long run early in the second quarter Saturday.
The blow is somewhat absorbed by the play of freshman Jermar Jefferson, who against the Thunderbirds ran for four touchdowns and 238 yards, the third-highest single-game rushing total in Oregon State history.
