The center fielder out of Beaverton High school was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18th round of today’s draft. The 6 foot 1 Watson originally committed to OSU in the fall, but will now have to decide if he wants to turn pro early. Watson boasts great range in center field and is considered a plus athlete with above average speed. If he is to join OSU next season the left handed hitting Watson would have to compete with several returning veterans for playing time. Turning pro would possibly give him the opportunity to begin his career in nearby Hillsboro with the Diamondback’s single-A affiliate the Hillsboro Hops.
