In mid-April, Dallas Wings’ forward Ruth Hamblin decided to take a season off from the WNBA to focus on making the Canadian National Team roster. At the time, the decision seemed a risky one for the team’s 2016 second-round draft pick, who was coming off a rookie campaign in which she averaged just 1.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. However, the Oregon State product seemed unfazed by her decision.
Three months later, Hamblin’s risky call was suddenly the right move all along.
Hamblin, along with former Oregon State teammate Jamie Scott (Weisner), were both selected to the twelve-player roster who will compete for Team Canada in the upcoming 2017 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
