LOS ANGELES – The No. 24/RV Oregon State University softball team was bested late in the series opener against No. 4/4 UCLA (26-2, 2-2 Pac-12) at Easton Stadium on Saturday night.
The Beavers fall to 19-11 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-12.
Scoreless through three and a half innings, UCLA drew blood first in the bottom of the fourth with two unearned runs off a single and double in consecutive at bats.
Oregon State got a clutch at bat from Michelle Sass in the fifth inning. Missy Nunes reached on a fielding error and in the next at bat, with Merwin pinch running, Sass hit a deep towering shot over the centerfield wall tying the game 2-2.
