In the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft (pick #15), the Philadelphia Phillies have selected pitcher Mick Abel from Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon. He was an Oregon State commit and now will have a decision to make about going to college or turning pro.
Mick Abel is probably the most hyped baseball prospect from Oregon out of high school. Adley Rutchsman of course went No. 1 after three years in Corvallis; but Oregon hasn’t had a first-round high school player drafted since 1994 (Matt Smith).
Being selected with the 15th pick is special. Abel is a crazy good athlete and an exceptional right-handed pitcher.
