Mateo Olmos Receives Prestigious Honor At Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State wrestler Aaron "Mateo" Olmos received the prestigious Frances Dancy Hooks Award Monday at the 40th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on the Oregon State campus.

A public health major, Olmos is active in many campus student organizations, including as a member of Kappa Alpha Si, DAM Change and the Black Student Union. He's also worked at the Lonnie B. Harris Black Cultural Center. He's been active in the community, leading ongoing efforts to end systemic racism by sharing his experience as a Black-Mexican American. He has been involved in local and national marches.
