Mason Moran off scout team, preparing like he will play in wake of Oregon State quarterback injuries

CORVALLIS – In the span of 15 minutes Saturday, Oregon State quarterback Mason Moran realized how quickly the plans for his freshman season could change.

Starting quarterback Darell Garretson and backup Conor Blount were helped off the field with injuries on consecutive fourth quarter drives of a 19-14 loss to Utah. Moran, who planned to redshirt his first year and has practiced with the Beavers' scout team, suddenly heard from coaches on the sideline he needed to be ready to play.

"I don't exactly know if my name was next to be called," Moran said.
