CORVALLIS — As ESPNU's coverage of the WNBA draft went to another commercial break midway through the second round, both Jamie Weisner and Ruth Hamblin were already feeling antsy.
But when the broadcast returned and panned to the giant draft board inside Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, both of their names had suddenly appeared.
"Wait, what?" Hamblin recalls thinking to herself and then yelling at the television screen. "That's my name! Hello!"
So nerves quickly turned to celebration, with Weisner and Hamblin going back-to-back at 17th and 18th overall to the Connecticut Sun and Dallas Wings, respectively.
