Ivy League to eliminate tackling at football practices

(Associated Press)

Responding to growing concerns about concussions and head trauma within the sport, along with the potential of long-term brain damage, Ivy League football coaches voted unanimously last week to ban tackling during regular season practices, according to the New York Times.

The vote of the eight coaches at Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania is expected to be formally approved by the league's athletic directors and school presidents. The new rule would be in addition to the league's existing regulations that limit the amount of full contact in practice during the spring and preseason.
